Come experience the rich history and culture of the oldest and most historic townships in Cape Town. Learn and become a part of the amazing community of Langa. This is an interactive insight to how the Langa showcases its struggle to strength, giving you a true prospective of a historical culture in its current state.
You will be collected from your hotel/accommodation and taken 20 mins out to “Langa”, a functional township rich in culture and pride in its heritage. We start with a drive through all the workings of the community and a stop and walk through of the local community centre, which highlights its art & culture, designed to uplift the community. You will learn about the apartheid era and how it affected and shaped the development of Langa and what they are doing now to combat the struggle.
These are examples of some of our stops along the tour:
• Catholic Church Complex / Initiation school – Important part of our history which explains how we balance traditional Xhosa
tradition and religion
• Langa Sport Grounds – Visit the place where local legends have come to play friendly games with Langa residents.
• Traditional Healer – Interact with a practitioner who fulfils different roles in the community such as healing physical, emotional
and spiritual illnesses
• Heritage sites – Amy Biehl Memorial, Gugulethu Seven Memorial, and Hamilton Naki Heritage site
We end at Mzanzi restaurant, where you will be greeted with a very warm welcome to the house by the African Marimba band playing traditional instruments. We sit down to a delicious traditional African meal that highlights the country’s diverse cultures and tastes, prepared by the one and only “Mama” herself with love, the lady of the house. We can assure you it will be one of the best meals you will have in cape town. Other activities are also available upon request, such as gumboot dancing, face painting and drum circles. After dinner you will be chauffeured back to your accommodation.
This tour can be offered as lunch option or a walking/bicycle tour.
