  My friend and I were so excited about this experience but ended up being very disappointed. We took a very commercial, well-traveled route to Diving Board Rock, which we could... read more have done on our own without a guide. Kyle did not check in with us to ensure we all had enough water and supplies for the hike. We did not learn about the wildlife like it was described in the posting. We wanted to have jerky and coffee but we were never offered it as an add on. After we climbed up the mountain, we individually took a few photos and Kyle wrapped it up quickly and said we had to immediately go down without explanation. The weather was fine and other groups started their climbs when we finished, so our quick descent did not seem like we had to leave for a safety or weather issue. Before the hike, we were promised we could take the cable car down if it was running (which is was), but when we asked at the top, Kyle said we wouldn't take the cable car and that we'd simply go down the way we came. He did not give any explanation and just told us to hurry down.

We hiked, we rock climbed, we pulled ourself up on chain holds and all the while talked about everything from life, to astrology, to love, to work, to nature, to the meaning of existence. Kyle is a truly fascinating, kind old soul! He took such good care of my mom who needed his climbing expertise and gave me tips to improve my own monkey skills!

The hike was not easy but never too hard - it was challenging and perfectly exciting! Kyle explained the flora and fauna of the mountain, it’s history and diversity as we climbed. He loves this place and it really shows. It never felt like a lesson, or a lecture- rather we learned a lot while having a blast. Everything felt very organic and like a real once in a lifetime experience! Which this definitely was!

Hiking barefoot for a stretch was my favorite part! It was so grounding and the mountain has such a positive energy I am still buzzing !

We stopped to have delicious coffee and local South African Rusks on the way up and some beautiful birds gave us a visit and even ate right out of Kyle’s and then my hand.

My mom and I couldn’t have done this hike or known about this route without him! We felt like locals rather than tourists and truly felt like we did something no one else did. When we got to the top it really wasn’t anywhere near as cool as the journey up!
